Oldman River

The Old Man River in southern Alberta flows east from the Rocky Mountains, joining the Bow River to create the South Saskatchewan River. Are you confused yet? Over the last 200-300 years, many aboriginal groups have crossed paths at the river. And as one historian (someone who studies history) points out, the name is based on Native legends about an old Medicine Man who had magical powers. In modern times, the waters of the Old Man River were dammed to give farmers more water for their crops.
