Settlement

Settlement was a program by the government to get people to move to the western areas of Canada to live. These people were called “settlers” and they came from many different countries to settle in the Canadian west. They helped build homesteads, towns and cities that were called settlements. The western settlement program was so successful that by 1914, one in every 4 Canadians was living in the West, many in the new province of Alberta.
