The canyon walls, Grotto Canyon.Through the great efforts of archaeologists in the province we have been able to learn quite a bit about the earliest known inhabitants in Alberta. In this section we would like to share with you some of the sites that have been excavated and explored to some length in attempts to understand the origins and lifestyles of these early settlers.Lake Minnewanka and Grotto Canyon are both located near Banff, in the southern regions of the province and are amongst some of the most breath-taking places in the province. It is not difficult to understand why these early peoples made them their homes. Here we would like you to explore places such as Vermilion Lakes, Writing-On-Stone,Head-Smashed-In, Sundial Hill Medicine Wheel, Columbia Icefield and the Athabasca Glacier, Okotoks Erratic and the peoples who called them home.
