Aboriginal Place Names

The convergence of the Smoky and Peace RiversTravelling through Alberta today, one is struck by the assortment of curious names for many of the province's little towns and villages. If you were to pay close attention you would notice that many places in Alberta are British, French and even Scandinavian or Eastern European in derivation. However, some of the most colourful and interesting place names in the province have an aboriginal connection and tend to be some of the older and more beautiful spots in Alberta. Here, we would like to share with you the stories of a few of these places and their unique names.
