People and Families

Books and timelines can only tell us so much about the history of a community. The life stories and personal accounts of the families and individuals who settled the prairies provide depth and colour to the past. They allow us to associate names and faces to the first homesteads, schools, businesses and organizations that formed the foundations of a growing colony. Without the Métis colonists and pioneers who left their homes to start anew in the western frontier, there would be no town of St. Paul. Only a few of their stories are recounted here, but these examples provide a glimpse at what life might have been like for St. Paul’s first residents.
