The Famous 5 monument

Although the Famous 5 are most well-known for fighting the courts to have women declared "persons" under law, in order to get a complete sense of Emily Murphy, Irene Parlby, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney, and Henrietta Muir Edwards, one must explore their involvements in several spheres. The following pages allow a glimpse into their private lives as well as their individual community involvements and literary or political achievements.

Follow these pages to receive a further introduction into the lives of these brave and revolutionary women from Alberta. To experience the Famous 5 in their own words, follow the various links to "Readings," excerpted from the writing published during their lives.
