Although she was occupied with multiple causes, Murphy was a significant member of a variety of women's organizations. As well, her work as Police Magistrate brought her face-to-face with the plight of children, and caused her to take a special interest in their protection.

Listed below are some of the positions Murphy took up in her effort to improve social conditions across Canada.

  • First President of the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada,1919-21
  • Vice-President of the National Council of Women, 1918-26
  • Member of "Westward Ho," the first chapter of Imperial Order of Daughters of Empire, established in Alberta
  • Vice-President of Canadian Association of Child Protection Officers, 1921-25
  • Director of Canadian Council of Child Welfare, 1923-27
  • Member of Board of Directors of Big Sisters' Association, Montreal, 1928-31
  • Appointed by the Government of Alberta to special committee to report on international property laws relating to women, 1926
