This excerpt from The Travelling Reverend is the story of
Reverend Yutetsu Kawamura, a Japanese Buddhist priest who arrived
in the southern Alberta town of Raymond in 1934. Traveling
the prairies through his more than half-century of service, he and
his wife Yoneko helped bind the community together through the
years of depression, war, internment and eventual
prosperity. The Travelling Reverend is the work of
film maker Linda Ohama.
This film is one of the Scattering of Seeds series from White
Pine Pictures. The series celebrates the character of
immigrants who staked their futures and those of their families on
a second chance in Canada.
