Throughout the events of the past century, the Blood people have
been able to hold fast to their traditional culture. Here we would
like to share some of the stories of the Blood people,
particularly the story of Alison and Earl Healy who have committed
their lives to spreading their cultural traditions and way of life
throughout the world. Sharing their culture both at home and abroad has become a way of
life for Allison and Earl Healy. They have taken their traditional
culture and spiritual beliefs to Siberia, India, New Zealand,
Scandinavia, St. Lucia, Dominica, and Greenland.
Both Healys spent part of their youth in residential schools.
There,
use of First Nations language and practice of cultural heritage
were discouraged. But they have become ambassadors of their
culture, welcoming visitors to the "Indian Village" at
the Calgary Stampede. In this article from Legacy, Pat Verge
profiles the life and work of Allison and Early Healy.
