Country Fairs

As news of the first successful flights spread across Alberta, many wanted to see for themselves what these new aircraft looked like.

Curtiss Golden FlyerThere were many aviation enthusiasts who were glad to travel to the cities and towns across Alberta to demonstrate the various forms of flight. At summer fairs across the province, there were opportunities to see these pioneers jump from balloons, and parachute to the ground below. Later demonstrations showcased early pilots flying tiny aircraft that would be considered ultra light today. They flew the Curtiss Golden Flyers or aircraft they built themselves.

There was never any lack of enthusiasm for these aerial demonstrations, and even into the 1930s, aviators were always welcome at the summer fairs to perform stunts for the crowds below, or to provide an opportunity for the more courageous civilians to ride along.
