Maxwell (Max) William Ward was born in Edmonton on 22 November
1921. He attended school, but was far more interested in the
stories of the adventurous bush pilots that he heard throughout
his youth. He was eager to learn to fly and decided at an early
age to join the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).
