In Memory of those that Served

A commemorative plate with the following inscription on the back: "The British Commonwealth Air Training Plan" in Memory of Those who Served. During the war years of 1939 - 1945 a unique plan was developed in Canada by the royal Air Force and the royal Canadian Air force. To train pilots and aircrew for the conflict overseas. The British commonwealth air Training Plan was inaugurated in December of 1939 and 239 training facilities were established across Canada. By wars end in 1945, the plan graduated 131, 553 aircrew from Australia, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Norway, Poland, Great Britain, Canada and the United States. The plan also made household names of aircraft such as the Tiger Moth, Yale, Harvard and Anson. Fifty years later few examples of these aircraft remain, and several organizations have been formed to preserve this Canadian heritage. The mission of the Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association is to acquire, restore and maintain in flying condition the Harvard and other aircraft associated with the BCATP so that the sights and sounds of these marvellous aircraft can be enjoyed by future generations.
