Four Engines

DC-8 aircraft in flight over a body of water.The Douglas DC-6 was built with four Pratt & Whitney R2800CB piston-engines that had 2,400-horsepower each.

With these engines, the DC-6 was able to fly at 8,534 meters, at top speeds of 495 kilometres per hour for a range of 4,812 kilometres. With such range and speed, the DC-6 was the first aircraft used on scheduled flights around the world.
