The F-101B Voodoo was
originally developed as an interceptor and escort fighter for
bombers, but with high altitude bombers, like the B52, escorts
were not needed. The role of the aircraft shifted to that of
interceptor and fighter-bomber.
The F-101B was armed with two MB-1 Genie nuclear-tipped
air-to-air missiles. The United Sates Air Force version had four
Falcon air-to-air missiles. The Voodoo could also be armed with
six Falcon missiles.
Some of the other configurations of the plane’s armaments
included the use of two AIR-2A rockets and two AIM-4 guided
missiles.
