Grant McConachie was an important builder of the new aviation
industry that developed in Canada after the war. In 1931, McConachie flew in the Western provinces and into
the
North carrying freight, airmail and passengers, taking
advantage of unique opportunities created by air transportation.
He took Professor William Rowan (University of Alberta) and
the professor’s
migratory birds up in his airplane so that Rowan
could study their flight patterns as the birds
were released in
different places.
He barnstormed in the summers, and
hauled fish from Cold Lake
to Bonnyville where they were loaded onto the train.
