RCAF Trained

 

A black and white group photo of the civilian pilots that were used to instruct the RCAF pilots in training during the Second World War. The civilian pilots were employed by the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. The first row sixth from the left is Max Ward, who later started Wardair Canada. The civilian airlines that these instructor pilots worked for before the war was Canadian Airways Ltd. These pilots would have been instructing at RCAF Stn Edmonton. The picture is in a wooden frame that measures approx 18 inches wide by 12 inches high. On the back of the framed photo is a list of all the names of the men in the photo and also this notation "Photo taken summer of 1941 in front of the Aviation Museum (By Kingsway Ave). These same Captains became the first Captains in the CPA when CPR bought out Canadian Airways in 1942.
