Trained by RCAF

In 1940, Max Ward joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and learned to fly, earning his wings on 2 November 1941 in the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan.

He was a good student, and his high marks earned him instructor duties in the Air Training Plan. As a commissioned flight instructor, Ward taught at various Canadian bases during the Second World War.

In 1945, Ward left the RCAF and found a position as a pilot with Northern Flights limited, but soon decided that he wanted his own company.
