Namao Airshow

Framed photograph of AN-225 aircraft at Namao Airshow in May 1992. The aircraft was here to pick up materials donated to the Humanitarian Airlift to the Ukraine. This was the aircraft's first visit to Edmonton and it took back a load of medical equipment and supplies to the Ukraine. The photo was taken by Victor Post. The AN-225, built in Kiev of the Ukraine, this extraordinary machine is the world's largest and heaviest aircraft, as of 2002, and is considered a significant milestone in aircraft technology. It was developed from the AN-124 specifically to act as the carrier for the Soviet Space Shuttle. It is much bigger than the Boeing 747-400 or any of the giant US military heavy transport cargoplanes. It is truly a GIANT!
