Oral Histories

These interviews were done within a research project funded principally by Heritage Canada under the direction of Professor Andriy Nahachewsky of the Ukrainian Folklore Center of the University of Alberta called “Local Culture and Diversity on the Prairies”. Several hundred pioneers from the English, the German, the Ukrainian and the French communities were interviewed. The Institut pour le patrimoine de la francophonie de l’Ouest canadien was responsible for interviewing the more than 150 Francophone pioneers who participated. The questionnaire below was administered to all subjects. At times, it was also possible to collect a certain number of photographs from the life of the subjects and in rare occasions a video was made. When it appeared opportune, a more detailed interview was conducted as well.

These interviews were conducted in French.
