William Freeman (1876-1957)William Freeman followed his brother, Jack, westward in 1902 from Hull, Quebec. He married Nellie Mackintosh in 1917, and they settled on a farm near Ardenode, Alberta. Freeman was a major rancher in the area, at one point having as much as 200 head of horses, 1,500 head of cattle, and 35 hired men on the farm. During the First World War, he shipped horses east for the war effort. Freeman was a founding member of the United Farmers of Alberta, an important part of the agricultural community to this day. His wife was known for her turkeys, building up a flock of 3,000. In 1921 she was awarded the illustrious title of "Turkey Queen" of Alberta. Freeman holds the patents to two inventions: a seed grain separator, which he registered in 1951 and a cylindrical grain separator, which was registered in 1952.
