Interesting Facts About Medalta Potteries
- When more factory space was needed in 1927, Medalta bought the
Saskatchewan Bridge and Iron company building. But instead of packing up
and moving on, the owners hired a group of workers to dismantle the
structure, number the pieces and rebuild it behind the existing factory.
- In the 1940s, Medalta produced specialty dinnerware that was handed out
to movie patrons as incentives.
- When Medalta workers went on strike in 1947, the men were receiving an
average pay of 63 cents an hour, and the women an average of 41 cents an
hour.
