C. L. Lehman
C.L. "Chas" Lehman was a prolific inventor and astute businessman
operating out of Edmonton during the first half of the 20th century.
Lehman, unlike scores of other independent inventors not financed by large
corporations, managed to make a living from his inventions.
Arriving in Canada from England in 1915 and already an inventor, he turned
his inventive spirit to the developing field of gas and heating. Soon he
was selling his own patented water heaters, thermostats and furnace
burners to a willing Edmonton public. During his career he patented almost
20 inventions, mostly relating to heating and plumbing. As testament of
his salemanship and quality product, Lehman's store was
in business for more than 50 years.
