Interesting Facts About Medalta Potteries

  • When more factory space was needed in 1927, Medalta bought the Saskatchewan Bridge and Iron company building. But instead of packing up and moving on, the owners hired a group of workers to dismantle the structure, number the pieces and rebuild it behind the existing factory.
  • In the 1940s, Medalta produced specialty dinnerware that was handed out to movie patrons as incentives.
  • When Medalta workers went on strike in 1947, the men were receiving an average pay of 63 cents an hour, and the women an average of 41 cents an hour.
