Mastic Containing and Discharging Device (Patent No: 710121)

Inventor: Muttart, Merrill Davis

Location: Edmonton

Comments: see above

Description:
THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMIED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:

1. In a mastic containing an discharging device, a cylinder, having a mastic nozzle at one end and a cap at its opposite end, a divider positioned in the cylinder, a tube mounted slidably in the cap and divider to extend at one end past the divider into the cylinder and at its opposite end past the cap outside the cylinder, a handle connected to the end of the tube outside the cylinder and a stop connected to the tube at its opposite end inside the cylinder, a piston operating slidably in the cylinder, a piston rod connected at its one end to the piston and extending at its opposite end into the tube, ratchet teeth on the rod, a ratchet pawl on the stop arranged to contact the teeth on the rod when the tube is moved into the cylinder and to disengage from the teeth on the rod when the tube is moved out of the cylinder.

2. The mastic containing and discharging device as claimed in claim 1 and spring means co-acting with the ratchet pawl normally to maintain the ratchet pawl in engagement with the teeth on the rod.

3. The device as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein the ratchet pawl is constructed to engage with the divider when the tube is withdrawn to its maximum position from the cylinder to disengage the ratchet pawl from the teeth on the rod and allow the rod to telescope into the tube.

4. A mastic containing and discharging device comprising a hollow cylinder having a nozzle at one end thereof, a piston slidably mounted in said cylinder, a piston rod in said cylinder fixed to said piston, said piston rod having a series of teeth in longitudinal alignment thereon, a tube axially arranged in said cylinder and having one end extending outwardly from the other end of said cylinder, the other end of said tube being open, said piston rod extending through said open end of said tube and being telescopically disposed in said tube, a stop fixed to said tube adjacent said open end thereof, a pawl pivotally mounted on said stop and being swingable into engagement with one of said teeth, said pawl having an angularly extending arm, a spring fixed to said stop and engaging said arm to urge said pawl into engagement with one of said teeth, said pawl having locking engagement with one of said teeth in response to movement of said tube in a direction towards said nozzle to move said piston rod and piston therewith and having releasing engagement with said teeth in response to movement of said tube in the opposite direction, and means permitting axial movement of said piston and piston rod in a direction away from said nozzle comprising a plate fixed to said cylinder and disposed therein between said stop and said other end of said cylinder, said plate being engageable by said pawl arm to swing said pawl out of tooth engaging position.
