6 Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance
The Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA) is Canadas leading
entrepreneurial business alliance. The alliance is committed to helping
its members with global competitiveness, as 80 percent of its members
operate internationally. Their mandate is helping small businesses grow. CATA
has offices across the country that focus on the provision of business
services and government programs that provide assistance to entrepreneurs.
Billed as the "Traditional Champion" of research and development
in Canada, CATA is focused on global business growth through
Canadian innovation.
Membership in CATA is offered to any enterprise or organization that
benefits from the growth of Canada's advanced technology industry. There
are a number of benefits and advantages CATA offers to its members
- Tax Credits for Funds Spent on Research and Development. CATA helps
small businesses prepare tax submissions to the federal government for tax
breaks on research and development funds.
- Worker's Compensation. CATA has convinced the Workplace Safety and
Insurance Board that software companies should not have to pay premiums as
their workplaces do not pose hazards to their employees well-being.
- Government Contracting Terms and Conditions. CATA is working to clearly
define the terms of intellectual property with the federal government to
ensure that entrepreneurs can benefit from their innovations.
- Immigration. CATA is lobbying the federal government to make immigration
less strenuous to attract knowledgeable workers internationally.
- E-Canada Campaign. This is a new initiative launched by CATA to
stimulate growth in the economy through public sector investments that
encourage advanced technology business in Canada.
CATA, through its encouragement of the entrepreneurial advanced technology
in Canada, contributes to the country's efforts to create a
knowledge-based economy by 2010. Their strategies and policies help to
create an economy that encourages advanced sectors of the economy to grow
and flourish.
