Inventor: Sissons, William J.

Location: Medicine Hat

Comments: N/A

Description: THE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE
PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:

1. A brick comprising: a pair of vertical side members having substantially plane parallel opposing inner surfaces, at least two vertical web members oriented transversely to said side members and joining said side members together, said web members and side members defining at least one enlarged vertical opening through said brick, each web member having identically shaped cutouts in its upper and lower edges, each cutout being defined by first and second opposed substantially straight side surfaces and a substantially horizontal straight surface joining said side surfaces, said side surfaces sloping inwardly towards each other at an angle of approximately 30 degrees from the vertical, said side surfaces commencing, at the edges of said web members, at points spaced inwardly from said inner surfaces of said side members, whereby when said brick is laid above another said brick, said cutouts will form a six sided opening through which reinforcing and service members may be horizontally laid, the side surfaces of said cutouts holding said reinforcing and service members away from said inner surfaces of said side members and directing water away from said inner surfaces.

2. A brick according to claim 1 wherein the combined depth of said cutouts is less than one-half of the height of said brick.

3. A brick according to claim 2 and having three said web members, One at each end of said brick, and one between said ends of said brick, said web members defining with said side members two said enlarged vertical openings through said brick.

4. A brick according to claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein the thickness of each said web is slightly greater than the thickness of each said side members.

5. A brick according to claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein the width of each said cutout, as measured at the edges of said web members, is approximately one-half the width of said brick.

6. A brick according to claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein the width of each said cutout, as measured at the edges of said web members, is approximately half the width of said brick, and the distance between each said point at which a said side surface of a said cutout commences and the nearest inner surface of a said side member is approximately one-half the thickness of such side member.
