Drive Assembly for Distributors of Granular Material (Patent No: 640717)

Inventor: Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada Ltd.

Location: Montreal, PQ

Comments: N/A

Description:
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed, are defined as follows:

1. In combination with a device for distributing granular material which includes a wheeled supporting structure, a bin for receiving granular material having an open outlet in the base thereof; an oscillatable, trough shaped member secured to and carried by at least one shaft extended in alignment with the long axis of said member, said member being positioned below the open outlet and adapted to receive granular material from the bin and to discharge said granular material alternately over each side of said member during each oscillation thereof; and a feed throat extending from said open outlet downwardly into said oscillatable member; an improved drive assembly for actuating said oscillatable member which comprises a non-load carrying ground wheel connected to said supporting structure; a flexible rotatable shaft driven by said ground wheel and connected in a driving connection to a disc-like flywheel member rotatably mounted on an axle carried by said device, said axle being parallel to the long axis of the said oscillatable member; a connecting rod eccentrically and pivotally connected at one end to said flywheel member and connected at its other end to the free end of a crank, the other end of said crank being operatively connected outside of said bin to a shaft to which said oscillatable member is secured.

2. The device according to claim 1 in which means are provided to adjust the length of the stroke of said connecting rod.

3. The device according to claim 1 in which means are provided to effect rotation of the said ground wheel at a rate substantially constant relative to the rate of rotation of the wheels on which the supporting structure is mounted.

4.In combination with a device for distributing granular material which includes a wheeled supporting structure, a bin having side and end walls for receiving granular material and having an open outlet in the base thereof; and an oscillatable, trough-shaped member secured to and carried by stub shafts removably journalled in the ends of said bin and said member and extended in alignment with the long axis of said member, said member being positioned below the open outlet and adapted to receive granular material from the bin and to discharge said granular material alternately over each side of said, member during each oscillation thereof; and a feed throat extending from said open outlet downwardly into said oscillatable member; an improved drive assembly for actuating said oscillatable member which comprises a non-load carrying ground wheel connected to said Supporting structure; a flexible rotatable cable driven by said ground wheel and connected, in a driving connection, to a disc-like wheel member rotatably mounted on an axle carried by said device, said axle being parallel to the long axis of said oscillatable member; a connecting rod pivotally, adjustably and eccentrically connected at one end to said flywheel member and at its other end to the free end of a crank, the other end of said crank being operatively connected outside of said bin to one of said stub shafts to which said oscillatable member is secured.

5. In combination with a device for distributing granular material which includes a wheeled supporting structure, a bin for receiving granular material having an open outlet in the base thereof; an oscillatable, trough shaped member secured to and carried by at least one shaft extended in alignment with the long axis of said member, said member being positioned below the open outlet and adapted to receive granular material from the bin and to discharge said granular material alternately over each side of said member during each oscillation thereof; and a feed throat extending from said open outlet downwardly into said oscillatable member; an improved drive assembly for actuating said oscillatable member which comprises a non-load carrying ground wheel connected to said supporting structure; a gear driven by said ground wheel; a second gear meshed with said first-mentioned gear; a flexible rotatable shaft connected, in a driven connection, at one end to said second gear and connected at the other end, in a driving connection, to a disc-like flywheel member rotatably mounted on an axle carried by said device, said axle being parallel to the long axis of the said oscillatable member; a connecting rod eccentrically and pivotally connected at one end to said flywheel member and at the other end to the free end of a. crank, the other end of said crank being operatively connected to a shaft to which said oscillatable member is secured; and means for adjusting the length of the stroke of said connecting rod.

6. An improved drive assembly for actuating an oscillatable trough-shaped member secured to and carried by at least one shaft extended in alignment with the long axis of said member, said member being adapted to receive granular material and to discharge said granular material alternately over each side of said member during each oscillation thereof, said drive assembly comprising a non-load carrying ground wheel; a flexible rotatable shaft driven by said ground wheel and connected in a driving connection to a disc-like flywheel member rotatably mounted on an axle parallel to the long axis of the said oscillatable member; a connecting rod eccentrically and pivotally connected at one end to said flywheel member and connected at its other end to the free end of the crank, the other end of said crank being operatively connected to a shaft to which said oscillatable member is secured.
