Description: Hubert Peters and Frederick J.Y. McDonald Bill, assignee of a half interest, both of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, 1st June, 1915; 6 years. Filed 16th June 1914. Receipt No. 240,165.

Claim.-1. The combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, rollers rotatably mounted therein, a drum rotatably mounted in the casing intermediate of the rollers, a screen having its ends connected to the said rollers, and designed to engage with the said drum, means for operating the rollers, and means for limiting the motion of the drum and screen, as and for the purpose specified.

2. The combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, spindles rotatably mounted therein, rollers on the spindles, a clutch mounted on one end of said spindles, rods, a clutch mounted on one end of said rods designed to engage with the first said clutch, means for rotating the rods, a screen mounted on the rollers and having its ends attached thereto, and means for limiting the motion of the screen, as and for the purpose specified.

3. The combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, rollers rotatably mounted therein, a shaft rotatably mounted in said casing, a drum rigidly mounted on said shaft, a disc rigidly mounted on one end of said shaft, a disc rigidly mounted on one end of said shaft, pins located on and extending from the outer periphery of the disc, rods slidably mounted in said casing designed to engage with the pins on the disc, means for operating said rods, a screen mounted on and having its ends secured to said rollers and designed to engage with the drum, and means for rotating the said rollers, as and for the purpose specified.

4. The combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, rollers rotatably mounted therein, a shaft rotatably mounted in the casing, a drum rigidly mounted on said shaft, pins located at one end of the said drum and extending radially from the outer periphery thereof, a screen having a plurality of orifices designed to engage with said pins, such screen being mounted on the said rollers and having its ends attached thereto, and means for operating the said rollers, as and for the purpose specified.
5. The combination with a street car, of a indicator comprising a casing, rollers rotatably mounted therein, a shaft rotatably mounted in the casing intermediate of the rollers, a drum rigidly mounted on said shaft, pins located at one end of the said drum and extending from the outer periphery thereof, a screen having a plurality of orifices designed to engage with the said pins, such screen being mounted on the said rollers and having its ends attached thereto, means for operating the rollers, rods mounted in the casing, and a guard mounted no the said rods designed to keep the screen in position, as and for the purpose specified.
6. The combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, rollers rotatably mounted therein, a shaft rotatably mounted in the casing intermediate of said rollers, a drum rigidly mounted on said shaft, a disc rigidly mounted on one end of the shaft, pins located on and extending from the outer periphery of said disc, two rods slidably mounted in the casing located on diametrically opposite sides of said disc and designed to engage with the said pins on the disc, means for withdrawing one rod from engagement with the said pins and simultaneously engaging the other rod with the said pins, resilient means for returning the rods to a normal position, a screen mounted on the said rollers and having its ends connected thereto, and means for operating said rollers, as and for the purpose specified.
7. the combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, spindles rotatably mounted therein, rollers rigidly mounted on said spindles, a clutch located at one end of said spindles, a sleeve rotatably mounted in the casing, a rod slidably mounted in one end of said sleeve, a clutch located at the outer end of said rod adapted to engage with the first said clutch, means for limiting the longitudinal motion of said rod, a plug rigidly mounted in the opposite end of said sleeve provided with an enlarged head having serrations in the outer face thereof, a spindle rotatably mounted in the casing having an enlarged head provided with serrations on the outer face adapted to engage with the first serrations, means for intermittently rotating said rollers, and a screen mounted on said rollers and having its end attached thereto, as and for the purpose specified.
8. The combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, spindles rotatably mounted therein, rollers rigidly mounted on the spindles, a clutch located at one end of the spindles, a sleeve rotatably mounted in the casing, means for preventing longitudinal motion of said sleeve, a rod slidably mounted in one end of the sleeve, a clutch located at the outer end of said rod adapted to engage with the first said clutch, means for limiting the longitudinal motion of said rod, a plug rigidly mounted in the opposite end of said sleeve provided with an enlarged head having serrations in the outer face thereof, a spindle rotatably mounted in the casing having an enlarged head provided with serrations no the outer face thereof adapted to engage with the first said serrations, a coil spring mounted on the last said spindle designed to operate the said rollers, and a screen mounted on the said rollers and having its ends attached thereto, as and for the purpose specified.
9. The combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, spindles rotatably mounted therein, rollers rigidly mounted on the spindles, a clutch located at one end of said spindles, a sleeve rotatably mounted in said casing and having a slot extending diametrically therethrough, means for overcoming longitudinal motion of the sleeve, a rod slidably mounted in one end of the sleeve, a clutch located at the outer end of said rod adapted to engage with the first said clutch, a pin mounted in the rod designed to engage with the slot in the sleeve, a plug rigidly mounted in the opposite end of the sleeve provided with an enlarged head having serrations in the outer face thereof, a spindle rotatably mounted in the casing having an enlarged head provided with serrations on the outer face thereof adapted to engage with the first said serrations, a coil spring mounted on the last said spindle and designed to operate the said rollers, and a screen mounted on the said rollers and having its ends attached thereto, as and for the purpose specified.
10. The combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, rollers rotatably mounted therein, a shaft rotatably mounted in the casing, a drum rigidly mounted on the said shaft, a disc rigidly mounted on the shaft, pins on the outer periphery of the disc and extending radially therefrom, rods slidably mounted in the casing located on diametrically opposite sides of the disc and designed to engage with said pins, an armature mounted on one of said rods, solenoids designed to intermittently engage with said armature, means for connecting the rods together, resilient means for returning the rods to a normal position, a screen mounted on said rollers and having its ends attached thereto, and means for operating the said rollers, as and for the purpose specified.
11. The combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, a shaft rotatably mounted therein, a drum rigidly mounted on the shaft, pins mounted on the outer periphery of the disc and extending radially therefrom, rods slidably mounted in the casing located on diametrically opposite sides of the said disc and designed to engage with the said pins, a bracket mounted on the casing, a link pivotally connected at its ends to said rods and pivotally connected intermediate of its ends to said bracket, an armature mounted on one of said rods, solenoids designed to intermittently engage with said armature, resilient means for returning said rods to a normal position, rollers rotatably mounted in the casing, a screen mounted on said rollers and having its ends attached thereto, and means for operating the rollers, as and for the purpose specified.
12. The combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, spindles rotatably mounted therein, rollers mounted on the spindles, a clutch on one end of said spindles, a sleeve rotatably mounted in the casing, a rod mounted in one end of said sleeve, a clutch on one end of said rod designed to engage with the first said clutch arms on the outer periphery of said sleeve extending radially thereto, a plug rigidly mounted in the other end of said sleeve, a spiral spring housed in the sleeve and located between the said rod and plug, solenoids in the casing, a link having bifurcated ends adapted to operate the said clutches, a link pivotally attached to first said link, a rod pivotally attached to second said link, an armature mounted on said rod adapted to be operated by the solenoids, a screen mounted on the rollers and having its ends attached thereto, and means for operating said rollers, as and for the purpose specified.
13. The combination with a street car, of an indicator comprising a casing, spindles rotatably mounted therein, rollers mounted on the spindles, a clutch on one end of the spindles, a sleeve rotatably mounted in said casing, a rod mounted in one end of said sleeve, a clutch on one end of said rod designed to engage with the first said clutch, arms mounted on the outer periphery of the sleeve and extending radially therefrom, a plug rigidly mounted in the other end of said sleeve, a spiral spring housed in the sleeve and located between the said rod and plug, solenoids mounted in the casing, a link having bifurcated ends adapted to operate the said clutch, an arm mounted on the link, a roller mounted on the arm designed to engage with the radially extending arms on said sleeve, a link pivotally attached to said link, a rod pivotally attached to second said link, an armature mounted on said rod adapted to be operated by said solenoids, a screen mounted on the rollers and having its ends attached thereto, and means for operating the rollers, as and for the purpose specified.
14. The combination with a street car, of an indicator, spindles rotatably mounted therein, rollers mounted on the spindles, flanges of non-conducting material mounted near the ends of the spindles, a conducting wire mounted on the outer periphery of one of the flanges, a conducting strip mounted on the spindles and connecting to the conducting wire on said flange, a screen mounted on the rollers and having its ends attached thereto, rubber strips mounted in the screen designed to engage with the said conducting wire on said flange, a leaf spring designed to engage with the contact strip when same is uncovered by the rubber strip and adapted to close an electric circuit and reverse the action of the curtain, and means for rotating the said rollers as and for the purpose specified.
