Heritage Community Foundation

The Heritage Community Foundation is a charitable Trust (Charitable Number: 87082 2541 RR0001) committed to connecting people with heritage. The Foundation developed and maintains the Alberta Online Encyclopedia - www.albertasource.ca.

The Foundation has received recognition for its state-of-the-art programs involving new technology and experiential learning and works with public and private-sector partners. Its primary areas of interest based on its charitable objects are: Educational Resource Creation, Research, Digital Technology and Experiential Learning. All programs link people with place, stories, objects, landscapes, traditions-all of those aspects that define us as individuals and communities.

Alberta Aboriginal Relations

Alberta Aboriginal Relations works with Aboriginal communities and other partners to enhance social and economic opportunities for Aboriginal people in Alberta. Activities include:

  • Work with other government departments to support the development of programs and policies that affect Aboriginal people in Alberta
  • Advise and sometimes lead agreements between the provincial government and Aboriginal groups
  • Administer Métis Settlements legislation.
  • Help resolve Aboriginal land-based issues.
  • Coordinate First Nation land and resource development consultations.

Aseniwuche Winewak Nation of Canada

The Aseniwuche Winewak Nation of Canada (Cree for Rocky Mountain People) was formalized in September, 1994 when the six Aboriginal settlements that surrounded the town of Grande Cache, Alberta, joined together to have a collective presence and voice. In 2001, the Nation became the representative body of more than 400 individual members, and the corporate members of Cooperatives and Enterprises. They have three primary objectives:

  • Identifying social, cultural, educational, economical and recreational needs, and initiating community action to respond to those needs
  • Promoting and enhancing community participation
  • Promoting better understanding and relations between Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people

Bigstone Cree Nation

The Bigstone Cree Nation is a Woodland Cree First Nation with six reserves established in Alberta: Desmarais and Wabasca (multiple land tracts) in Wabasca, near Slave Lake and Jean Baptiste Gambler in northern Alberta. The Bigstone Cree Nation Government "protects and strengthens the spirit and intent of the Treaties and Traditional Lands for today and tomorrows future." The Nation is committed to the pursuit of the highest Quality of Life "miyopimatisowin" for all its people.

Loon River First Nation

The Loon River First Nation is a Woodland Cree First Nation with reserve lands in the Loon River area.
