Grant MacEwan's venture into civic politics caught him at an unexpected time. Humbled after his failed attempt at entering federal politics in Manitoba, MacEwan, like his father, decided to relocate west. He left his home in Winnipeg abruptly hoping to soon forget about his personal defeat. Seeking to focus much of his efforts on writing MacEwan quickly found himself entering the dangerous world of politics. The following section examines his role as both alderman and Mayor of Calgary.
