Based on his accomplishments and the amount of respect he received from the academic community, politicians were keenly interested in MacEwan. His recent achievements only heightened their interest in MacEwan's abilities. Between 1933 and 1944 he received three different invitations to represent the Liberal Party in Manitoba. Each time he respectfully declined the offer to enter Federal politics choosing instead to remain with the university. After the Second World War the invitations continued. Again, MacEwan declined the offer.
