The Environment

In his 1966 book, Entrusted to my Care, MacEwan emphasized the importance of caring for the environment. He is seen here with J.D. Bradley, examining the bituminous sands at Fort McMurray in 1948.

From an early age Grant MacEwan developed a keen interest in the environment, and more specifically, preservation and conservation. In 1914, he wrote the words "entrusted to my care" in one of his daily journals; those words would resonate with him for decades until he used them as a title for his book on safeguarding Canada's resources. Publications like Entrusted To My Care and Watershed: Reflections on Water demonstrate the author's passionate concern for the environment. Environmental awareness and responsibility became just as much a part of MacEwan's life as his interest in agriculture.

This section will address a number of contentious issues like water conservation, resource management, and industrial development.
