Kent Lyle

Kent Lyle, native of Calgary and real estate pioneer, has had a varied real estate career of 44 years; he has been a salesman, a manager, president of his own company, and a prominent member of the Calgary Real Estate Board.

Lyle entered the real estate industry in 1963, after graduating from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He started his career working for his father and uncle's firm, Lyle Brothers Limited. The firm was bought out by Royal Trust in 1966, and Kent continued on with the company, become the divisional manager for Calgary, and later the Alberta area manager. Royal Trust soon became the largest residential real estate brokerage in Calgary. It now operates as Royal Lepage.

In 1975, Lyle left Royal Trust and started Lyle Real Estate Ltd. with partners Ron Smith and Gary Johnson. While his company was prospering, Lyle became president of the Calgary Real Estate Board in 1981, like his father and uncle before him. Lyle took the reigns of the board at the time of a sharp market decline. Despite tough times, the Calgary Real Estate Board celebrated the installment of a new computer system that changed the way the board operated. After his term as president, Lyle stayed active within the Board. He also at one time served as national chairman of the FRI division of the Real Estate Institute of Canada, and as director of the Canadian Real Estate Association.

Kent Lyle ran his company until 1986, until he joined Employee Relocation Services Ltd. in Calgary. In 1992, he was hired by the Federal Government to run the relocation program for the Canadian Forces.

In 1997, Lyle semi-retired and moved to Sylvan Lake. He works part time as a broker to Envoy Real Estate Services Inc. He has also been mayor of the Summer Village of Norglenwold, and president of the Sylvan Lake Watershed Stewardship Society.

Kent Lyle is an Honourary Life Member of the Calgary Real Estate Board.
