Al Montgomery

Born in 1928, Calgary REALTOR® Al Montgomery grew up on a farm near Tees, Alberta, east of Lacombe. He graduated from Lacombe High School in 1948, and then worked for Mobile Oil. His passion for geography and the study of land led him into a career in real estate, and in 1957, he joined the Calgary Real Estate Board.

Al worked at the Calgary Real Estate Board during its formative years, under the tutelage of executive vice president, Frank Johns. Al's duties at the Board's office, a two-storey house on 5th Avenue, involved office management, administrative, accounting, arbitration, and the facilitation of real estate courses. Al Montgomery was an educated REALTOR®, receiving his Fellow of the REALTORS® (FRI) designation in 1961.

After 19 years with the board, Al resigned and eventually joined the Alberta Real Estate Association, where he used his management skills for 12 years working on provincial legislation and licensing procedures. During his career, Al also edited the Calgary REALTOR® and the AREA Round-Up, two monthly real estate publications.

In 1968, he became president of the Canadian Real Estate Executive Officer's Council. In 1990, he retired from real estate due to health reasons.

Although he is retired, Al Montgomery is not idle. He pursues his hobbies - geography, antique cars, and traveling - and he actively volunteers. He has been the president of the Confederation Park Senior Citizens centre, a director for the Interfaith Housing Corporation, a volunteer for STARS Air Ambulance, and a member of the Calgary Real Estate Board's Old Timer's group.
