Blairmore
Category : Town | |
The McLaren sawmill was built nearby at the turn of the century, and the Blackfoot name, "nitay-stato-ksisokyopi" reflects this, translating as "where they rip logs." (Dempsey). The name Blairmore was derived from the names of two men. Mr. Blair and Mr. More were contractors who laid the Canadian Pacific Railway line through what is now Blairmore. The town was officially given this name 15 November 1898. Other sources contend that the name of the town is after A.G. Blair (1844-1907), the Minister of Railways in the Laurier Government. The town was incorporated 29 September 1911. (see Municipality of Crowsnest Pass) |
