The name Burmis is a combination of the parts of the first two surnames on a petition sent to the federal government to change the name of the "flag-stop" from Livingstone in 1906. Robert H. Burns was a rancher located 13 km east of Livingstone station, and Jack Kemmis was a rancher located north-west of Cowley. It is from the names of these two ranchers that the name Burmis was born. |
