Blackfriars Peak
Category : Peak | |
In 1901, Jean Habel suggested the name “Blackfriars” for another mountain, after the Shwarze Monche in the Bernese Oberland; schwartz means “black” and monche means “friar” or “monk.” Because there was a Blackfriars Mountain already named in B.C., in 1921 the name “Dais Mountain” was approved for the feature, likely descriptive of its lectern shape. The name “Blackfriars” was re-approved in 1989 for this peak in Alberta because of well-established local usage of the name. |
