Amesbury

Category : Locality

The post office opened in 1933, with J.T. Smith being the first postmaster. It is possibly named after a place in Wiltshire, England. It combines "Stronghold of a man named Ambre" with "burg," referring to a populated area. It is at the site of Amesbury Abbey where quite some time prior to the establishment of the abbey, Queen Guinevere of Arthurian legend is believed to have died.

Approximately 50 km north-west of Lac La Biche.
