This Northern Alberta Railways point name was approved in 1971, and was named for a Canadian soldier from the Grande Prairie area, Private Donald F. Shaver, who died on October 25, 1944. The spur line was constructed to the Procter & Gamble pulp mill.

Approximately 11 km south-east of Grande Prairie.
