Amadou Lake

At one time known locally as Touchwood Lake, the name Amadou Lake was officially adopted in 1955. According to the dictionary, touchwood is a "readily flammable, especially soft substance into which wood is changed by fungi, used as tinder." Amadou is tinder made from fungi. The word amadou comes from its Latin root meaning lover or quickly afire.

Approximately 120 km east of Slave Lake.
