Mrs. Butti describes the cold shock she received upon arrival in Edmonton as a young girl, and some of her early impressions.

Henry (Enrico) describes the harrowing 24 day Atlantic crossing from Genoa to New York during World War I and his arrival in his new Alberta home.

The interwar years saw the rise of Fascism.  Mr. Butti relates how that personally affected him in Edmonton.

Italians during WWII were not bothered by intelligent people, but ignorant people would discriminate against them. Henry says that one of the worst people was an Italian who was born here!

Pre World War II Italian immigrants were mostly labourers who ended up working in the mines.  Few were professionals.  Mr. Butti relates conversation with a neighbour in Nordegg who gives his opinion of higher education.
