Paolo bought a ticket to Edmonton and moved in 1950.
During this time he worked at many jobs including
running a restaurant, and a job with the federal
government.
His wife came over in 1952 and they lived in a
boarding house on 97th Street and 103 Avenue. Eventually
they bought a house and rented rooms out to other
Italians.
Paolo enjoyed making home made wine from 1954 until
1975.
Paolo and his wife have one daughter and two
grandsons.
His daughter was born in Italy in 1926 and came to
Edmonton in 1954.
Paolo sponsored some of his relatives over the years,
and finally became a Canadian citizen himself in
1955.
When not working, Paolo likes to work in his garden.
He got seeds from his sister in Italy so he could grow
Italian vegetables.
Paolo feels that Italians as a group were not
respected by the wider society. However, he remains
proud of his Italian heritage.
Paolo has always felt that he made the right decision
in coming to Canada.
