Implications and Contentions

Five GenerationsThe terms of Treaty 8 encompass a large area of northwestern Canada and therefore affect many people in that region.  While the treaty itself is over 100 years old, there is a diverse range of issues that remain as important today as they were at the time of the negotiations and signing.  Some of these issues revolve around concerns over land claims, treaty rights, jurisdiction, the development and encroachment of industry on treaty lands, as well as the social and economic implications the treaty continues to have on those peoples that adhered to it over 100 hundred years ago.  Here we would like to share with you a glimpse into some of these issues in an attempt to broaden perspectives and challenge your thoughts.
