Big Bear

This is the name of a famous Indian chief not an actual bear! He was born around 1825 near Jackfish Lake. Jackfish Lake is near what is now North Battleford, Saskatchewan. His father was a chief of a small band of Cree and Ojibwa (O + jib + wa) Indians. Big Bear was a good leader and an excellent peacemaker. He tried to bring all the different Indian Nations together to talk with the government.
