Cattle Branding

Have you ever wondered why your mother puts your name on your underwear? She does this so you know what belongs you and what belongs to someone else. Farmers do this with their cows even though animals do not wear underwear! In the past branding was done with a hot piece of iron that would burn the cow's flesh! The brand was a symbol that the farmer invented like this: ? or U. Today branding is done with tattoos, chemicals, and tags. This is thought to be less painful for the cow! I wonder if they asked the cow?
