Fitzsimmons, R. C.

R. C. Fitzsimmons was a superhero in the oil industry. In 1930, he built a small oil separation plant at Bitumont, which is north of Fort McMurray. He was able to separate the crude oil from the sands, but had problems selling his product. The government of Alberta took over his company in 1948 and started to experiment with separation methods.
