Gale, Annie

Annie Gale is a famous Alberta woman who lived in Calgary in 1912. She set up clubs that helped people in need. She encouraged women to take part in politics. In 1917 she was elected to Calgary city council, the first woman to in the British Empire to hold that job. Annie served as acting Mayor sometimes, again the first for a woman. In 1924, she was elected to the school board.
