Grotto Canyon graw + toe

Grotto Canyon is in the Rocky Mountains near Canmore, Alberta. The only way to get there is on foot but what you will see there is worth the walk! The canyon itself appears to be a very old river-bed whose river has disappeared. When you enter the canyon you are really entering a valley that has been carved smooth by the action of running water. The canyon walls on either side of you are smooth and polished. As you continue to walk into the canyon, the walls grow higher and higher around you. If you have good eyes you may be able to see old paintings on the rock walls called "pictographs." An old tribe of Natives from Arizona painted these pictographs there. Even though the paintings are faded and badly damaged, they still remind visitors of an age long gone.

If you are planning a trip to the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, be sure to stop at Grotto Canyon and visit the pictographs. Please do not touch them so that other people, many years from now, can enjoy them too.
