Open Pit Mining

This type of mining is used most often in the mountains. They used to use underground mines in the mountains, but they proved to be too dangerous. In Open Pit Mining the miners remove the soil and plants covering the coal. They dig out the coal and take it to be used. Then they return the soil to the hole they dug. This is a much safer way to mine coal in the mountains.
