Red Rock Coulee cool + eee

A coulee is a steep sided ravine formed by heavy rain or melting snow. Red Rock Coulee is located in southern Alberta’s badlands. The most interesting thing at Red Rock Coulee is the round reddish boulders made of sandstone. These boulders were made in prehistoric (time of the dinosaurs) seas as layers of sand. The reddish colour is comes from something called iron oxide.

A visit to Red Rock Coulee Natural Area is a great opportunity to see strange land features and prairie plants and animals. There are picnic tables and pit toilets available. You are in Rattlesnake country here, so be careful when you are hiking.
